From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a thrilling plot featuring celestial beings, demons, and malevolent powers expanding in influence within the city.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure follow below.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
Episode 3 concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the premier party of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to begin their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team features Teor (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
Given 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that having everyone at one table would be impossible.
This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the events of the third episode demonstrate why these specific adventurers are best suited for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose demise started the story’s plot—used the foes for his own means, entering the hidden lair, striking Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.
The antagonist then settled his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, beyond the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each character has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a hostile location.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their reputation as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the team access locations they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him everywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that rule the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:
- The rogue and The character are known criminals.
- The warrior and The healer turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- Teor is wanted dead by the clan.
This means them little choice but to head to the remote area in search of the traitor.
Upcoming Developments
Based on the latest episode’s follow-up content, we discover that the Soldiers table will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Seekers and Planners tables.
Audiences can look forward to finding out which adventurers will be where in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
